Did you know that Henry David Thoreau was a climate change scientist, recording the timing of the first flowering of blueberries and other natural phenomena more than 150 years ago? For the past 12 years, Professor Richard Primack and his
team from Boston University have been using Thoreau's records and other data sources to document the dramatically earlier flowering and leafing out times of plants, the earlier ice out at Walden Pond, the more variable response of migratory birds, and the
changing abundance of plants due to the warming climate. Join Professor Primack for a beautifully illustrated presentation about his team's scientific studies, which will be peppered with quotes that honor Thoreau's relevance to contemporary issues. His book
Walden Warming: Climate Change Comes to Thoreau's Wood, which was recently highlighted in the New York Times, will be available for purchase and signing.
