THE GILLS CLUB will meet at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History
Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10am. This education initiative by the
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is dedicated to connecting girls with
female marine biologists, sharing knowledge, empowering them to take
leadership positions and to inspire others with their passion for sharks.
The Gills Club is pleased to have Heather Marshall, PhD candidate at
UMASS-Dartmouth, as this month’s guest speaker. Heather’s interest in
sharks began in childhood after reading a book about the shark attacks
along the coast of New Jersey in 1916. Her early fears gave way to
fascination while researching sharks as an intern for Dr. Greg Skomal of
the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries in 2004. Currently,
Heather is researching the physiology and ecology of sandbar and dusky
sharks while finishing her PhD at UMASS-Dartmouth. <br>
