Sanctuary worked with the Town of Wellfleet, The Nature Conservancy, NOAA, and
other partners to establish an oyster reef habitat on the sanctuary&#8217;s
tidal flats off Lieutenant Island. In addition to restoring this former
habitat, the goals of the project included studying how the reef and oysters
are impacted by natural mortality, disease, and harvest. The reef&#8217;s
ecological benefits to the area are also being examined. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
