color:black'>On Saturday morning, May 8 from nine to noon, Waquoit Bay
Reserve’s Research Coordinator Dr. Chris Weidman will lead a barrier
beach ecology walk on South Cape Beach. Participants will learn about the
forces at work on the Cape’s beaches. Dr. Weidman will answer
timeless questions such as “where did all this sand come from,
where’s it going and how do humans figure in all this?” He’ll
also give an update on the Reserve’s research and ongoing shoreline
monitoring programs at South Cape Beach and point out current projects.</span><span
style='font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Tahoma","sans-serif";color:black'><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class=normal style='margin-bottom:10.0pt'><span style='font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";
color:black'>Dr. Chris Weidman has been the Research Coordinator for the
Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve since March 2000. He received
his BS in Water Resources Management in 1989 at the State University of New
York–College at Oneonta, NY, and in 1995 obtained his PhD in Marine
Geology and Geophysics from the MIT / Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
Joint Program in Oceanography. He was a National Research Council Post-Doctoral
Fellow at the Northeast Fisheries Research Center in Woods Hole from 1997-1999.
In a former life in the 1970s, he was a commercial fisherman in Chatham, MA.
Chris’ own research interests are coastal processes and ocean climate
