has invited author Todd McLeish to share stories about his first-person
adventures studying estuarine species and other threatened and endangered wildlife
found on <st1:place w:st="on">Cape Cod</st1:place>. The program on
Thursday, September 24<sup>th</sup> at 7:00PM will be held in the
Reserve’s <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Visitor</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">Center</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> in celebration of
Estuaries Day. Attendees are welcome to bring his books for signing.<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>

12.0pt'>In his two books, Golden Wings & Hairy Toes: Encounters with New
England’s Most Imperiled Wildlife and Basking With Humpbacks: Tracking
Marine Life in New England Waters, he recounts time spent with the biologists
who are monitoring and protecting some of the rarest wildlife in the region,
including basking sharks, roseate terns, bay scallops, leatherback turtles,
burying beetles and right whales. Todd will take participants along on an
entertaining first-person journey with biologists who are studying these
creatures to better understand the complex threats they face. Todd will recount
experiences helping harbor porpoises escape from fishing nets, snorkeling in
search of wild bay scallops, and learning how the blood of horseshoe crabs is
used in medical research. In examining the natural history of these creatures,
Todd also discusses the physics of waves and currents, the geology of the
seabed, the chemistry of sea water, and other natural factors influencing the
lives of <st1:place w:st="on">New England</st1:place> marine life.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

12.0pt'> Rhode Island-based writer Todd McLeish has been writing about
wildlife and environmental issues for more than 20 years. While earning degrees
in communications at <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Ithaca</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType> and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName
w:st="on">Emerson</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">College</st1:PlaceType></st1:place>,
he developed a passion for wildlife, natural history and environmental
protection. Rather than pursue a biology degree, he immersed himself in the
natural world by volunteering to help biologists with their wildlife research
and write about these experiences. He has written more than 100 magazine and
newspaper articles as well as dozens of essays about backyard wildlife,
profiles of biologists and wildlife artists, and numerous threatened species from
piping plovers to northern blazing star. Todd also works as a science writer
and publicist for the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceType w:st="on">University</st1:PlaceType>
of <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Rhode Island</st1:PlaceName></st1:place>. An
expert birder, and popular leader of natural history walks, Todd is an
in-demand public speaker about endangered species.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
