<DIV>GRASSROOTS RESPONSES TO THE GLOBAL WARMING PROBLEM</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Communities like Woods Hole are worried about their future.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Community and religious groups on the coast of Massachusetts are VERY
concerned about the threat of global warming. One of the big
questions is, "How do we move from talking about the problem to developing
some local problem-solving activities?" What's needed
and what's possible?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Several grassroots programs are planned for October. The
first will take place in Falmouth.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>OCTOBER 4th (Sunday afternoon): The Cape Cod Council of
Churches is co-sponsoring an interfaith</DIV>
<DIV>gathering that will look at three basic questions.....
FIRST: How can religious organizations set a good</DIV>
<DIV>example by reducing their energy use? SECOND: How
can religious organizations support the production of clean and renewable
energy? THIRD: In the midst of a recession, how can
religious organizations help people to obtain the transportation and home energy
services that they need? (This is an energy justice</DIV>
<DIV>concern that involves questions about fuel assistance, weatherization for
low-income families, etc.)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>There will be presentations by the Massachusetts Interfaith Power and
Light; Cape Light Compact; local human services agencies, and others...
The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve and the local
Sierra Club have been active in developing the Oct. 4th program.... The
program will take place at the Unitarian Universalist church in
Falmouth.... The Unitarian Universalist church is located at 840
Sandwich Road, in east Falmouth..... It is wheelchair
accessible.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>It's all free! There will be a check-in starting at 1:00
pm, followed by a program that will continue "until around 5:00
pm." Afterwards, there will be a light dinner with
conversation.... Although the program is designed, primarily, for
religious groups that are concerned about coastal environmental issues and
energy use, the program may interest a variety of
environmentalists..... For additional information and early
registration, contact the Unitarian Universalist church in Falmouth.
