The town of Wellfleet has been known for its rich shellfish resources for almost 400 years and local</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">author</FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"></FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">David B. Wright</FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"></FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">has chronicled this fascinating history in his new book</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I></I></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">The Famous Beds of Wellfleet: A Shellfishing History</FONT></I></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">. On Wednesday,</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">July 29 at 7:30 p.m.</FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"></FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary</FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">, Wright will discuss the role the oyster and shellfishing has played in this small town and share images from the Wellfleet His</FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">torical Society. Joining him will be</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">author Barbara Brennessel</FONT></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman"> who wrote</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I></I></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><I> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Good Tidings: The History and Ecology of Shellfish Farming in the Northeast</FONT></I></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">. She will provide a current perspective on the cultural and ecological role of aquaculture in our region. B</FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">rennessel is a Wheaton College biology professor, as well as a summer resident of Wellfleet.</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">Both authors' books will be available for purchase and signing.</FONT></B></SPAN></P>
<P DIR=LTR><SPAN LANG="en-us"></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, along with the town of Wellfleet and The Nature Conservancy,</FONT> <FONT FACE="Times New Roman">has undertaken an oyster restoration project. An artificial oyster reef was built in June in the waters off the sanctuary. Wellfleet Bay science coordinator Mark Faherty quipped "build it and they will come," in hopes that oyster spat (juvenile oysters) w</FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">i</FONT><FONT FACE="Times New Roman">ll find the reef inviting and settle on the structure, setting the stage for a successful reef. Basic details about this project will also be shared at this talk.</FONT></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN><SPAN LANG="en-us"><B></B></SPAN></P>
