nine centuries. They’ve been curiosities and sea monsters,
commodities and sources of wealth and investment, rallying points for
environmental consciousness and the focus of intense and ongoing scientific
research. To some they’re still a source of protein and cultural

Dyer</st1:PersonName>’s thoughtful overview “Cross-cultural
perspectives: 1690-1935”. He’ll examine the variety of
different ways that people around the world went whaling with a strong emphasis
on the Yankee model.<o:p></o:p></p>

present, starting with management initiatives in the 1940s to the development
of conservation policies and whale-watching in the 1970s.
She’ll highlight the industry that brings us close to whales again.
Learn about the how the whale watching industry has played a role in tourism,
