RACHEL CARSON HARVEST DINNER

Cape Cod's annual Rachel Carson Harvest Dinner will take place Sunday evening, October 19th, at the Navigator Club, in East Falmouth, on Cape Cod. Everybody is invited!

The Rachel Carson Harvest Dinner is an unusual event for environmentalists.

The dinner is a harvest celebration that honors Rachel Carson and "earth friendly" agriculture and landscaping on Cape Cod..... It's also a fundraiser that raises money to help support the community food pantries that serve the residents of Mashpee, Falmouth, Sandwich, and Bourne.

The doors open at 5:30 pm.... A traditional ham and bean supper will be provided. Vegetarian specialties will be available.... Tickets are $15 each for adults and $5 each for children.... No family will be charged more than $35..... Entertainment will be provided by the Falmouth Fiddlers.

Sunflower Awards will be presented! Sunflower Awards are given to some of the organizations and individuals that have been especially helpful with "earth friendly" food production and landscaping on Cape Cod.... This year, the Sunflower Awards go to the Falmouth Historical Society and to the Falmouth Service Center.... The Falmouth Historical Society has presented exhibits and guided tours that tell the story of agriculture in Falmouth.... The Falmouth Service Center manages a successful community garden. It's an organic garden. This is the 25th anniversary for the Falmouth Service Center. (The FSC is involved with many projects that help low-income families. It manages a community food pantry and it provides low-income fuel assistance, etc.)

The first Rachel Carson Harvest Dinner took place in 2003..... "Ray" Carson is one of the famous environmentalists in American history... Her studies in the marine sciences started in 1929, at the MBL in Woods Hole. She was one of the first women to have a career as a scientist.
