Program which utilizes volunteers to sample water quality along the bay

10.0pt'>The River Herring Monitoring Assistant is responsible to monitor the
anadromous fish run yearly count in the <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Acushnet</st1:PlaceName>
<st1:PlaceType w:st="on">River</st1:PlaceType>, <st1:City w:st="on">New Bedford</st1:City>
and the Wankinko and <st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Agawam</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType
w:st="on">River</st1:PlaceType>, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Wareham</st1:place></st1:City>.
Through the collection of biological and water chemistry information the
Monitoring Assistant performs field tasks in order to collect accurate
population size estimates. This part-time, entry level position reports
directly to the Monitoring Director. Responsibilities include, but are not

Assist with installation of River Herring monitoring instrumentation in coastal

mix of outdoor monitoring and fieldwork, contacting and working with
volunteers, data entry, and video analysis work. Candidates should have a
high energy level, be well organized, and be able to work well with all
volunteers. The candidate should capable of performing hard work involved
with monitoring in the field. The Assistant will need to have his/her own
reliable transportation. Knowledge of Buzzards Bay, southeastern <st1:State
w:st="on">Massachusetts</st1:State> and ability to identify marine fish common
in <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Massachusetts</st1:place></st1:State>'

responsible for help coordinate its Baywide Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring
Program- Baywatchers and additional watershed Natural Resource Monitoring
programs (Stream Flow, Anadromous Fish, Salt Marsh). Responsibilities
include assisting with the coordination and training of approximately 130
volunteers, water quality and natural resource monitoring, data entry and
public outreach for the water quality monitoring program. This part-time,
entry level position reports directly to the Monitoring Director.

quality scientific data to support conservation, restoration and smart growth
decisions for local communities. Training is provided regarding all
aspects of the program- monitoring equipment, and computer programs. Job
will be a mix of outdoor monitoring and fieldwork, contacting and working with
volunteers (phone calls, training, deliver equipment, answer questions), data
entry, and lab work. Candidates should be able to work well with all
volunteers. It is also important that the candidate be a good teacher and
communicator as well as capable of performing hard work involved with
monitoring in the field. Helpful skills include and environmental science
background, previous work with volunteers and data entry/management
