Bob Prescott, Director of Mass Audubon's Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, will talk about "Sea Turtles of Cape Cod," Thursday, October 25, 6:30 pm, at Brooks Free Library, 739 Main St., Harwich Center. Sea turtles are ancient creatures that have roamed the Atlantic Ocean since its beginnings. Cape Cod, a relatively recent peninsula which formed at the end of the last Ice Age, interferes with the turtles’ seasonal migrations. Every autumn, as the water temperature falls, sea turtles get hung up in Cape Cod Bay, and may drift ashore. Prescott has been studying sea turtles since 1979, and says the last 10 years has seen the evolution of a "24 hour, 7 day a week" effort at the sanctuary to rescue these stranded animals. He plans to bring shell specimens to the talk, which is free.
