On Friday, August 10 at 7:30 pm the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will
present Dr. Mark Madison, national historian for the US Fish &
Wildlife Service, speaking on “Rachel Carson’s Fight for Conservation
and the Origins of the Environmental Movement.” This program is free to the
public.

Rachel Carson (1907-1964), one of the nation’s
preeminent naturalists and conservationists, introduced readers to a lyrical
appreciation and scientific understanding of the natural world through her
celebrated books Under the Sea-Wind, The Sea Around Us and A
Sense of Wonder.

Her book Silent Spring is
a classic study of the effects of wide-spread assault of contaminants and
pesticides on the natural world, leading the way to the modern environmental
movement.

A century after her birth, Carson’s
courageous life and legacy continues to offer us ethical and scientific guidance
in grappling with 21st century environmental challenges of global warming,
invasive species, and sharing our planet with other
creatures.

For further information, please contact
