<DIV>INVITATION TO APRIL 14th GATHERING</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The RMS "Titanic" will be remembered on Saturday afternoon, April 14th,
during a special gathering in Hyannis that will focus attention on global
warming and social justice.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The "Titanic" hit an iceberg on April 14, 1912, and sank the next morning,
with heavy loss of life.... The world was horrified and the story of the
"unsinkable ship" has often been told in movies and in popular
books...... The "Titanic" tragedy has become a symbol of two
things.... Human technological pride and reckless behavior
and also - when disasters occur - humanity's failure to respond to
the poor and others who are easily marginalized during the rush to the
lifeboats.... Keep these lessons in mind during global warming
discussions.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Individuals will gather on April 14, 2007, at 1:30 pm, at the corner of
Ocean and South streets, overlooking Hyannis Harbor... There will be a
walk to the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main Street, for an interfaith
service that will begin at 2:00 pm. All people, of all faiths, are
invited. The building is accessible for people with
disabilities. The event is sponsored by the Cape Cod Council of
Churches with support from the Sierra Club.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The featured speaker will be Rev. Robert Francis Murphy, a Unitarian
Universalist minister who has been involved with global warming and
environmental justice issues for many years.</DIV>
<DIV>Rev. Murphy recently spoke about energy and social justice at the
national environmental justice conference at Howard University Law School, in
Washington, DC.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Woods Hole has a display of "Titanic" photographs and items. In 1986,
the Deep Submergence Laboratory team at WHOI discovered the wreck of the
"Titanic" There is a "Titanic" display at the WHOI museum in Woods
Hole.... And, of course, there are many scientists and
environmentalists in Woods Hole who are very concerned about global
warming issues.... For information about the Hyannis gathering on April
14th, please call the Unitarian Universalist church in
Falmouth. Telephone: (508)
