size="3"> The Sounds Conservancy Grants Program is dedicated to
supporting the conservation and restoration of the sounds of Long
Island, Fishers Island, Block Island, Rhode Island, Martha¹s Vineyard,
and Nantucket and their adjacent coastlines in Connecticut,
Massachusetts, New York, and Rhode Island.</font></p>
<p><font face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3" color="#000066"><b>GRANTS PROGRAM OBJECTIVES</b></font><font
face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3"> The program encourages and supports projects which lead to:
i) greater public awareness and understanding of our coastal resources
and environmental quality needs; ii) improved marine resource
management and coastal management policies; iii) a better understanding
and management of our region¹s coastal fisheries and their habitats;
iv) new careers, job opportunities, and enterprises in the
environmental and economic sectors of marine-related industries. </font></p>
<p><font face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3" color="#000066"><b>WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR GRANTS</b></font><font
face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3"> All university, college, and high school students, private
individuals, and nonprofit organizations whose projects are within the
region described above are eligible. </font></p>
<p><font face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3" color="#000066"><b>SIZE AND USE OF GRANTS</b></font><font
face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3"> Grants average $1,000 and will not exceed $2,500. TSC
encourages applicants to seek other sources of funding to share project
costs. A small portion of the grant may be reserved until the Center
receives the final report. Funds provided may cover such costs as:
purchase of materials and equipment, travel, fees for computer time,
publication and printing. </font></p>

size="3" color="#000066"><b>AWARDING OF GRANTS</b></font><font
face="Book Antiqua, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Bookman Old Style"
size="3"> The Selection Committee will award grants on the basis of:
program objectives, originality of proposal, perceived usefulness of
the proposed research or product, qualification of the applicant, and
budget availability.<br>
