<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif">The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts and local nonprofit land trusts invite landowners and the general public to this free workshop about powerful new federal income tax deduction incentives for conservation restrictions. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif"> </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif">A conservation restriction limits development to protect natural resources.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>By implementing a conservation restriction, a landowner preserves his or her land while retaining ownership and traditional uses as well as realizing lower estate and property taxes.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span></font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif"> </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif">Each conservation restriction is tailored to the resources to be protected on the property and what uses the property owner wants to continue.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Examples of reserved rights can include maintenance of scenic views, trails and others.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Public access is not required.</font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif"> </font></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif">Recent changes to federal tax law, designed to encourage conservation, have increased the tax benefits for landowners who donate a conservation restriction in 2006 or 2007.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>The change in the law increases the amount of the deduction from 30% to 50% of adjusted gross income per year for 16 years, an extension of 10 years.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>Unless Congress extends the law, it will expire at the end of 2007. </font></p>

<br /></font></span><span style="FONT-SIZE: 16pt"><font face="times new roman,times,serif"><font size="2">Directions from Falmouth: Proceed south on Route 28 (toward Mashpee). The Reserve is located a just under 2 miles from the Davisville lights in East Falmouth (1 mile from Mahoney's Garden Center and 0.5 miles from White's Landing/Edward's Boat Yard/Childs River) on the right after the Waquoit Cemetery. The Reserves offices are located on the second floor of the main building. </font></font></span>
