Facing Climate Change is more than the title of an upcoming public presentation and discussion at Cape Cod Community College, it is exactly what the participants want the public to do – face it, not debate it. Massachusetts State Senator Robert O’Leary will facilitate an evening focused on global climate change, February 5, 2007 starting at 7 p.m. in the Tilden Arts Center.

Generously underwritten by TD Banknorth, the event features Keith Bergman, Provincetown, MA Town Manager and volunteer with The Climate Project, the non-profit organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore. Bergman will give a powerful digital program that mirrors the movie “An Inconvenient Truth,” premiered in 2006 at the Sundance Film. He is one of the first 50 Climate Project volunteers specially trained to make this presentation. More information about the global initiative can be found at www.theclimateproject.org.

Following the presentation, a panel of regional leaders of environmental and renewable-energy related groups will offer their perspectives and options for community and individual action to address the issue. Participating with Bergman and Senator O’Leary will be: Maggie Geist of the Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, Anthony Cortese of Second Nature, and Robert Prescott, Director of the Massachusetts Audubon Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.

The Lobby of the Tilden Arts Center will be filled with information booths staffed by organizations promoting the sustainability theme. These are confirmed to date: Association for the Preservation of Cape Cod, Cape and Islands Self Reliance, Cape and Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative, Cape Cod Center for Sustainability, CHAMP Homes, Waquoit Bay National Research Reserve, Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, and Paula Peters sharing information about the LEED certified private home. College organizations participating include its Environmental Technology Program, and the Sustainable Campus Initiative. More groups are expected to be staffing tables.

The event is free and open to all. Individuals requiring auxiliary aids or services to access this event should contact Joyce Chasson, Director of the O’Neill Center for Disability Services at Cape Cod Community College: 508-362-2131.
