<DIV>ENERGY and ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE (January 1)</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Two energy-related events will take place in Woods Hole on January
1st. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>At 11:00 am, there will be a citizens gathering at the Woods Hole Community
Hall, on Water Street, to introduce a new discussion about energy, the
environment, and human rights.</DIV>
<DIV>The Falmouth Clergy Association is sponsoring this event with support from
the Sierra Club's Cape Cod and Islands Group. The big question for
New Years Day is, "How can different groups work together to provide
all people with sources of energy that are safe, affordable, adequate, and
sustainable?" What's needed on the Cape and islands this
winter?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>State Representative Matthew Patrick, who has been involved with energy
issues for many years, will be the main speaker. Louise
Patrick, who is an authority on fuel assistance programs, will speak about human
needs and energy use in our region. The Sierra Club will
outline its program for providing local families with basic information
about fuel assistance and home energy conservation. Admission
to this event is free. However, there will be a collection to help
support the work of the Housing Assistance Corporation.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>At noon, the annual family walk around Eel Pond in Woods Hole will
begin.... Families are encouraged to bring holiday noisemakers,
costumes, and flags that are appropriate for New Years Day.
After the walk and a brief gathering at Waterfront Park, there will be a potluck
party at the Woods Hole Community Hall. Once again, everybody
is invited! It's free.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The New Years Day events in Woods Hole will help to bring human rights and
environmental justice concerns into the continuing conversation about coastal
protection and energy.</DIV>
