green—but not in honor of Saint Patrick. Instead, these select homeowners
honor the environment by employing environmentally friendly technology in the
design and heating of their houses. In doing so, they’ve also made their
homes more comfortable, and, as energy costs soar, they’re reaping the
economic benefits of their investments by lower fuel bills. <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>Learn about their experiences</span></b> on Tuesday, <b><span
style='font-weight:bold'>March 29</span></b> in a workshop sponsored as part of
<b><span style='font-weight:bold'>Green Home& Business: Focus on Energy</span></b>,
an educational series for homeowners and small businesses that focuses on
energy in the home and small business.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoBodyText2 style='margin-left:0in;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><font
size=2 face=Helvetica><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'>At 2 p.m.
on March 29 at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, Orleans residents Seth
Wilkinson and Alison Flynn will tell about the house they built which includes
solar panels for hot water, a masonry stove for supplemental heating, super
insulated foundation, roof shingles made from recycled tires, and reclaimed
lumber. Seth and Alison will share their impressions of the technology after a
year of living with it. And this winter really put it to the test. “To
have 150 degree water heated by the sun on a 20 degree day in the middle of
winter is really amazing,” exclaimed Wilkinson. </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoBodyText2 style='margin-left:0in;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><font
size=2 face=Helvetica><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'>East
Falmouth</span></font><font size=2><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:
150%'> residents Bryan Jesienski and </span></font><font size=2><span
style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'>Lindsey Close</span></font><font
size=2><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'> who live in Alchemy
Farm Cohousing, will present later that same day in Waquoit at the Waquoit Bay
Reserve at </span></font><font size=2><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:
150%'>7 p.m.</span></font><font size=2><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
line-height:150%'>. Bryan and Lindsey’s highly insulated home has passive
solar design features, a composting toilet, and other sustainable features.
Solar panels heat their home and hot water. They have installed date loggers
in their home to monitor the performance of their system. Tom Wineman, of Clean
Energy Design who designed and installed the solar system will be on hand to explain
how the solar system works. </span></font></p>
<p class=MsoBodyText2 style='margin-left:0in;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><font
size=2 face=Helvetica><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'>The
Renewable Energy Trailer will be on site at each of the locations one half hour
before each program. This unique traveling display of renewable energy is a
hands-on approach to learning about the opportunities and technology available
to homeowners and small businesses. It includes working solar hot water and
electric panels as well as a small residential scale wind turbine.</span></font></p>
<p class=MsoBodyText2 style='margin-left:0in;text-indent:.5in;line-height:150%'><font
size=2 face=Helvetica><span style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'> These
workshops are the fourth in the Green Home series sponsored by four partners:
Cape & Islands Renewable Energy Collaborative, </span></font><font size=2><span

style='font-size:10.0pt;line-height:150%'> and Islands Self-Reliance, Mass
Audubon, and Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. The series
concludes on April 5 with Tom Wineman, a renewable energy consultant,
discussing wind turbines that are made to power individual homes and
