<DIV>CELEBRATE THE FIRST DAY OF THE YEAR!</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The January 1st parade in Woods Hole, on Cape Cod, is now
a coastal tradition... Families gather, at noon, in front
of the Woods Hole Community Hall for a lively parade around Eel Pond...
Bring holiday noisemakers, funny hats and silly costumes, and rainbow
flags... This is an opportunity for young people, especially, to shout
"Happy New Year!" to the neighbors... However, it's also an opportunity to
talk about environmental concerns...</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>At Waterfront Park, merrymakers will pause to "toast the coast" with
non-alcoholic drinks.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>This will be the fifth year for the Woods Hole festival on the "first day
of the year."</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Falmouth's "No Place for Hate" banner always leads the January 1st
parade. The New Years Day event is planned by community, environmental,
religious, and human rights groups that are concerned about the future of Woods
Hole and Cape Cod. Everybody is invited.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Prospero, who is the wizard in Shakespeare's play "The Tempest," helps to
inspire and guide the New Years Day parade. According to local legends,
Shakespeare's play was inspired by Bartholomew Gosnold's voyage to the Woods
Hole area during the early 1600s. Today's scientists and engineers have
more knowledge and power than Shakespeare ever imagined. So Prospero still
appears each year to ask Woods Hole people, "Will we be good stewards on
Cape Cod?" "Will we care for coastal areas and for the Atlantic
Ocean?" </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Bring leftover holiday cookies, fruitcakes, candies, cider and juice, etc.,
for the potluck party that follows the parade... It's the last holiday
party for this season!</DIV>
