Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (<a

is seeking a creative, productive, and
self-motivated individual for a
Postdoctoral Research Scientist position
to perform research in environmental
chemistry in the laboratory of Dr.
Christoph Aeppli. The primary goal of
this NSF-funded project is to determine
the photochemical fate of chlorinated
paraffins in surface waters containing
dissolved organic matter. The project
will involve laboratory irradiation
experiments, cutting-edge analytical
techniques, and computational chemistry.<br
class="">

Detailed knowledge in aquatic
photochemistry or the analysis of
chlorinated paraffins is desired.
Scientific rigor and curiosity, strong
organizational skills, and the ability
to publish high-quality research in
peer-reviewed journals are necessary.<br
class="">
<br class="">
The position is offered for a period of
two years with a preferred start date of
January 1, 2019. Candidate must have a
Ph.D. degree in chemistry (e.g.,
environmental chemistry, photochemistry,
analytical chemistry), environmental
sciences, or related fields by the start
date.<br class="">
<br class="">
Bigelow Laboratory offers a nurturing
scientific community, has an active
professional training program for its 15
to 20 postdocs, and the possibility for
undergraduate student mentoring and
teaching through a collaboration with
Colby College. Bigelow Laboratory’s
state-of-the-art oceanfront campus in
East Boothbay is located in scenic
Midcoast Maine, which offers excellent
opportunities for outdoor activities,
including hiking, canoeing, sailing, and
skiing. East Boothbay is within a
75-minute drive of Portland, ME, 2.5h of
Acadia National Park, and 3h of Boston.<br
