Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010, Audubon developed
the Audubon Coastal Bird Survey (ACBS) through Audubon
Mississippi's Pascagoula River Audubon Center (PRAC).
This citizen science initiative engages volunteers in
the year-round monitoring of shorebirds across coastal
Mississippi and Alabama. In addition, long-running
seasonal stewardship efforts focus on protecting
nesting Least Tern and Black Skimmer populations (in
partnership with the local Audubon Chapter) from human
disturbance. This year-round stewardship and
monitoring program is now the standard for Audubon’s
shorebird monitoring and conservation efforts that is
funded by the National Fish & Wildlife
Foundation’s (NFWF) Gulf Environmental Benefit Fund.</span></p>

coastal resource managers. While the specific EBFM
project to be conducted will be determined in part by
the expertise of the selected fellow, we envision a

introduce individuals to the non-profit sector of
marine conservation, focusing on the restoration of
coral reef ecosystems. The program is geared towards
those enrolled in an undergraduate program, graduate

graduates. Positions generally last 3-4 months and are
full-time, unpaid positions. Interns can expect to
gain a vast amount of experience both on the water and
in the Education Center (EC). In the EC, interns
perform a range of tasks including answering phones,
greeting visitors and answering questions, inputting
data, and performing aquarium maintenance. Dive days
occur 2-4* times a week, where interns assist CRF
staff with various activities including maintenance
in CRF’s offshore coral nurseries, outplanting corals
to designated restoration sites throughout the Upper
Keys, and leading fellow divers participating in our
dive programs.</span></p>
