                                  It puts Fiji’s biodiversity and
                                  ecosystems, particularly marine and
                                  coastal, at risk. This has severe
                                  implications for Fiji’s economic
                                  growth, as the country relies heavily
                                  on its natural resources for economic
                                  development; fisheries, forestry and
                                  agriculture are its primary
                                  industries. The effects of climate
                                  change are widespread and
                                  cross-sectoral.</span></p>

                                  Climate Change Planning Advisor, with
                                  a post graduate degree in climate
                                  change and/or environmental
                                  planning/management, is needed to
                                  advise and assist the Climate Change
                                  Unit (CCU) in the integration of
                                  appropriate climate change impact
                                  response strategies into all aspects
                                  of national, divisional and local
                                  development planning processes. The
                                  Volunteer will also assist CCU in the
                                  development of resources and training
                                  that will raise civil servant and
                                  public awareness around the topic of
                                  climate change vulnerabilities and the
                                  need for mitigation and adaptation
                                  actions. In addition, the Climate
                                  Change Planning Advisor will build the
                                  capacity of CCU staff and project
                                  officers through the participation in
                                  unit activities and training as well
                                  as assisting with the establishment of
                                  clearly defined planning and resource
                                  allocation protocols with the four
                                  divisional Commissioners and their
                                  Divisional Planning Units. By the end
                                  of this project, knowledge and skills
                                  should be transferred to all CCU
                                  Project Officers to a point where they
                                  are fully capable of identifying and
                                  describing the specific impact of
                                  climate change to all ministries and
                                  departments of the government. The CCU
                                  Team should also be able to advise and
                                  assist all ministries in the
                                  development of policies and programs
                                  that factor in the impact of climate
