utilizes remote sensing, modeled, and in situ data
for near-real-time and long-term monitoring,
modeling, and reporting of physical environmental
conditions influencing coral reef ecosystems. The

develop coral reef environmental monitoring
products and develop software for the CRW Work

based on satellite sea surface temperature (SST)
measurements (from geostationary and polar
orbiting environmental satellites). Any developed
software will go into the CRW code repository,
with many products transitioning to the CRW
Decision Support System for coral reef management.

pursuant to the Coastal Ocean Resources
Stewardship Act of 2000 to provide scientific
guidance to the state on ocean policy issues.
Our mission is to advance a constructive role
for science in decision-making by promoting
collaboration and mutual understanding among
scientists, citizens, managers and policymakers
working towards sustained, healthy and
productive coastal and ocean ecosystems. We work
at the nexus between the state and scientific
communities and hold ourselves dually
accountable to these partners. By developing new
tools and processes and synthesizing and
translating scientific knowledge, we help
decision-makers realize the full value of public
investments in science and help scientists
increase their relevance and impact on society.

executing, and overseeing the education
programs of the World Ocean School. Working
between the
Roseway’s office aboard the ship and
on the ground visiting schools and partners
in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Boston, MA, or
Savannah, GA, this person has primary
oversight of all program cultivation and
execution. The Education Director works
closely with the Executive Director and the
ship’s captains, as well as liaising with
the Board of Directors and donors as
necessary. The job entails travel, a
willingness to live aboard the ship for
programs when needed, and an ability to work
in non-structured environments. Most of all,
the education director should be highly
energetic, positive, flexible, and an
organized leader, able to be the face of
World Ocean School in the communities in
which we work, and representing the mission
and values of the organization.

Canadian Arctic Atmospheric Research, Various
Canadian Institutions

A variety of opportunities are available for a project
operating in association with the NSERC CREATE
Training Program in Arctic Atmospheric Science
(CREATEAAS). Using measurements from the Polar
Environment Atmospheric Research Laboratory (PEARL) at
Eureka, Nunavut, and measurements from other sites
around the Arctic and the rest of the globe, the
Probing the Atmosphere of the High Arctic (PAHA)
project will investigate the atmosphere of the
Canadian high Arctic.

The high Arctic is changing rapidly and these changes
are important, both within the region and as their
influence propagates out to lower latitudes.
Postdoctoral fellows are needed for projects on
composition
measurements (University of Toronto), clouds and
aerosols (Universite de Sherbrooke), the polar vortex
(University of Saskatchewan), mesospheric observations
(University of New Brunswick), lidar measurements
(Dalhousie University), and satellite validation
(University of Toronto). Depending upon the
development and interests of the candidates and the
PAHA project, there may be opportunity for fieldwork
at PEARL. This would entail working in the high Arctic
in remote conditions far. Review of applications is
ongoing, and decisions will be made by 15 June 2013.

There are also opportunities for graduate students at
both the MSc and PhD levels for projects broadly
similar to the postdoctoral positions. Most graduate
students associated with these projects have the
opportunity to work at PEARL and to participate in
outreach activities in the Arctic and Southern Canada
in addition to their regular programs. Additionally,
the CREATE-AAS program has an undergraduate summer
internship program for Arctic Atmospheric Research.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral level

Professor Chris Perry (Geography, Exeter), and Dr Tim

Funded under the UK ESPA (Ecosystem Services for
Poverty Alleviation) programme this post is
available from 1st October 2013 for 24 months and will
be based at Exeter's Streatham Campus, but involve
fieldwork in Kenya and Mozambique. The successful
applicant will work as part of a large international
consortium on 'Sustainable Poverty Alleviation from
Coastal Ecosystem Services (SPACES)'. Working with
partners in Kenya and Mozambique the project will
examine how ecosystems deliver benefits to poor
people. The postholder will take a lead role in the
collection and analysis of coral reef carbonate
production and ecological datasets from across a range
of reef sites in Kenya and Mozambique. The postholder
will have primary responsibility for collecting and
analysing quantitative reef biophysical datasets and
engage with project partners in using these data to
model the links between reef physical and ecological
"health" and the flow of ecosystems goods and services
to dependent communities.
