Deliverables will also include a geodatabase to store all elements of GIS habitat data that can be accessible via web-based mapping software. We work closely with local and national partner organisations, so a typical model is for a country programme to have just one or two FFI staff, supported by our regional team (based in Cambridge and Ecuador) and FFI's specialist cross-cutting teams in areas such as livelihoods, governance and ecosystem services. With a focus on landscape and habitat level conservation, in which communities have a central role, our lines of action include development of participatory governance systems for protected areas, support for development of local livelihoods, establishment of private protected areas, restoration of offshore islands and engagement of industries to improve their environmental practices. In this context, a high priority is the valuation and maintenance of ecosystem services, which have always been an integral part of biodiversity conservation and fundamental to local livelihoods. Seas At Risk is currently working on issues as diverse as the protection of deepwater ecosystems, greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, and EU-level marine policies.<br><br>Seas At Risk (SAR) is looking to recruit a new team member to work on the implementation of the Common Fisheries Policy. The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:<br><br>- To produce, jointly with FISH*, an environmental briefing document on fisheries policy ahead of each Fisheries Council meeting for Ministers and public officials attending that meeting.<br>- To produce, jointly with FISH*, an environmental briefing on fisheries policy in advance of relevant European Parliament meetings.<br>- To ensure that the briefing documents are concise, understandable and relevant to other actors as well, compiled and sent in a timely manner, well-researched and backed up by reliable supportive documentation.<br>- To report on the outcomes of Fisheries Council and European Parliament meetings to the media, the general public (via the SAR website) and SAR member organisations.<br>- To participate in the South Western Waters Regional Advisory Council (SWWRAC) and the Long Distance RAC (LDRAC).<br>- To liaise, cooperate and coordinate work with other NGOs engaged in RAC work.<br>- To communicate and consult with relevant actors, especially SAR and FISH staff and SAR member organisations; organise events and meetings when and if relevant.<br>- To assist SAR staff in other fisheries-related policy work as appropriate.<br><br>The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience in the field of European fisheries policy, knowledge of the process of policy development in European institutions and proven skills in writing informative and concise text and articles.
