scientists to fill several new fishery research positions. Successful applicants
will join a diverse and inventive work environment populated by people with
backgrounds from a variety of disciplines including statistics, quantitative
ecology, applied mathematics, ecosystem modeling, and fishery science.
Specifically, the incumbents will conduct state-of-the-art stock assessments and
related activities through the Southeast Data, Assessment and Review (SEDAR)
process. The incumbents will also plan and conduct research related to stock
assessments and ecosystem-based management; including fishery-oceanography
research such as is sponsored by the Fisheries and the Environment (FATE)
program, evaluating existing methods and data and developing innovative
solutions to any identified deficiencies. Other duties will include cultivating
collaborative relationships with other agencies, including with adjacent nations
that potentially share the same stocks (e.g., bilaterally with Mexico or through
multinational organizations such as the Caribbean Regional Fisheries mechanism
and International Convention for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna), and
representing the SEFSC on various Fishery Commissions and/or technical

on ocean conservation/management. The Director provides strategic advice
to Oceana advocacy campaigns and non-campaign policy initiatives and
participates in the development, implementation, and management of work plans
and priority activities. The Director is the direct supervisor of the team
of policy experts in Washington, D.C. The Director participates in other
organizational activities as requested by the Senior Vice President of North

member Sectors, known as the Northeast Fishery Sectors, twelve of which are in

partnership to restore and protect the coastal environment. The partnership
combines the individual statutory authorities, expertise and resources of the
federal agencies with state, local and non-governmental organizations to address
priority coastal problems. With over a thousand projects in 26 states, the
partnership has restored thousands of acres of wetlands, re-established hundreds
of miles of spawning streams, mitigated non-point sources of pollution and
protected endangered species. In addition, the partnership has established a
network of Coastal Ecosystem Learning Centers to bring federal expertise and
resources to efforts to increase public awareness of and involvement in managing
coastal resources. In partnership with the federal agencies, this network of 23
aquariums and marine science centers throughout the country and in Mexico and
Canada, is working collaboratively to improve public understanding of coastal
and marine issues through a variety of network-wide efforts from youth education
programs to interactive exhibits and kiosks with timely information and
data.</SPAN></P>
