leadership role in successfully promoting policies, both in the United States

We have been instrumental in bringing about many of the major improvements in
fisheries management and marine conservation that have occurred in the United
States since the mid 1990s. In addition, we have sponsored a large number
of groundbreaking research studies published in recent years that have
fundamentally changed the way in which the scientific community, the public,
policymakers and the media think about the world's marine environment.</P>

Fisheries Policy Project </SPAN></STRONG></P>

target=_blank>Federal Fisheries Policy Project</A> leads efforts to ensure that
federal fisheries managers effectively implement the law to end overfishing,
rebuild depleted fish populations and protect ocean ecosystems. We also
work with Congress to ensure that these implementation efforts are adequately
funded and that the legal fish conservation mandates are not weakened.
Finally, the campaign works closely with scientists, policy makers, fishery
managers, fishermen and conservation organizations throughout the country to
advance the campaigns goals. For 2011, the campaign will focus on the
following:</P>

to the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA), the

highlighting the need to and benefits of ending overfishing.

with positive solutions to help fishermen who are transitioning to
sustainability and to ensure sustained funding for fisheries management
reforms.

implementation of the MSA regionally (in cooperation with the Environment
Group's End Overfishing regional campaigns) by advocating for appropriations,

communities. It aims to restore the natural land-building process of the delta
ecosystem while simultaneously ensuring a vibrant, sustainable, and healthy
future for the area's communities, culture, and economy. Our recent campaigns
include working to close the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet, restoring a 30,000
acre wetland adjacent to communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina, and
building land in the deteriorated Barataria Basin. This work is supported by a
diverse staff of policy and legal experts, PhD scientists, community advocates
and organizers, and economists. The campaign is run in coordination with local
stakeholder groups and other national organizations, such as The National

monitoring, volunteer coordination and training, data collection, tracking of

fulfilling organizational objectives. The position requires interaction
with Capitol Hill, federal agencies, international decision-making bodies, and

literate (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and at least basic
statistical programs and working knowledge of ArcView would be of use). Good

good working knowledge of research analytical techniques and/or web editing are

of foraging ecology and population genetics in West Scotland, and spatial
analytical studies of cetacean distribution and habitat preferences of cetaceans

also focuses on education, providing a number of training aids, educational
visits and is winner of the third ?ASCOBANS Outreach and Education Award?. There
is also a Dolphin Adoption scheme, aimed particularly at children, focusing upon
the bottlenose dolphins of Cardigan Bay which was voted the best UK animal

underwater worlds, offering a variety of hands-on experiences to daily visitors,
as well as program-ming opportunities. Our focus is on displaying ecosystems as
complex communities of organisms interacting in their environments. The six main
exhibits are models of local Florida ecosystems (seagrass bed, mangrove forest,
coral reef, etc) and vary in size from 500 to 3000 gallons. We also have a touch
tank and a variety of smaller displays. </FONT></FONT></P>
