Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) and to attend a Joint FAO-IAEA-IOC Side Event on Early Warning Systems. This side event on EWS will include presentations and informal discussion with experts to allow participants to further understand the process that has been
used to develop, implement and assess the accuracy of EWS. </span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:#0E101A"><o:p></o:p></span></p>

to minimize their impacts. HAB microscopic identification and counts are the classic approaches used to assess bloom status, but a variety of new remote sensing methods, using satellites, planes, and in-water sensors for HAB cells and toxins are increasingly
being developed to support bloom forecasting and monitoring. Some regions of the world have fully operational EWS, while others are still in development. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
