<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">A postdoctoral position in phytoplankton biology is available at the</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">National Research Council Institute for Marine Biosciences to work on a</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">study of the distribution and quantitation of toxic marine microalgae</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">populations and their associated toxins in Atlantic Canada. The position</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">will be part of an international team investigating the population dynamics</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">and toxicity of harmful algae in coastal embayments in Atlantic Canada and</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">northeastern Spain.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">The candidate should have a strong background in ecology, population biology</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">and/or systematics of marine phytoplankton. The candidate should display a</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">capacity for team research, good organization and supervisory skills, the</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">ability to communicate and write effectively, a motivation to maintain high</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">technical standards, and the ability to define and obtain research</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">objectives independently with little supervision. It would be an asset if</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">the candidate had some experience with analytical techniques used to</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">characterize toxins in marine organisms.</FONT>
</P>
<P><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">The position is available for 2 to 3 years, starting in late 2004 or early</FONT>
<BR><FONT SIZE=2 FACE="Courier New">2005, and will be awarded through the NSERC Visiting Fellowship program.</FONT>
