<html><head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></head><body style="word-wrap: break-word; -webkit-nbsp-mode: space; line-break: after-white-space;" class=""><div class=""><b class="">tl;dr: The PO Steinbach Scholar will be at WHOI from July 11-13 and you all should meet with her and come to her seminars, even if you are not in PO.</b></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>Hi there, <div class=""><br class=""><div class="">After a two-year in-person hiatus, LuAnne Thompson from the University of Washington will visit WHOI as the 2020 PO Steinbach Scholar from July 11-13. </div><div class="">Please mark your calendars for her three seminars (see attached flyer). </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Here are three reasons to get excited about LuAnne Thompson’s visit:</div><div class="">1) Her interest in Climate Change variability has implications way beyond PO and touches on work done in other departments. </div><div class="">2) She is strongly involved in efforts to recruit underrepresented community members to the marine geosciences, interested in good mentoring, and has helped to found MPOWIR (Mentoring Physical Oceanography Women to Increase Retention). </div><div class="">3) I had good fun interacting with her while putting together the Steinbach Scholar Program. </div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">The H. Burr Steinbach Visiting Scholars Program is designed for us, the Joint Program Students and other young/early career scientists at WHOI, to meet scholars from other institutions in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
