Prior to
starting this
position in
2014, she was
Professor of
Cardiovascular
Medicine and
the Senior
Associate Dean
for Diversity
and Leadership
at Stanford

In addition to
her nationally
recognized
work in
developing and
implementing
transformative
approaches to
diversity in
academic
medicine, Dr.
Valantine has
had a
prestigious
career in
cardiology.
She maintains
an active
clinical
research
program at the
NIH that
continues to
have high
impact on
patient care. <br>

Dr. Valantine
studied
biochemistry
at London
University and
attended St.
George’s
Hospital
Medical
School. She
completed her
post-graduate
work in the
field of
cardiology in
London and
later trained
as a fellow at
Stanford
University
with leading
cardiologists
and cardiac
surgeons,
including
heart
transplant
pioneer Norman
Shumway. Dr.
Valantine has
received
numerous
awards
throughout her
career
including the
NIH Director’s
Pathfinder
Award for
Diversity in
the Scientific
Workforce and
Best Doctor in
