initiative that aims “to hit pause, to give Black
academics a break and to give others an opportunity to
reflect on their own complicity in anti-Black racism in

the initiative, faculty and staff may choose to use the
day to educate themselves about racial disparity and
systemic oppression that plagues our nation as we work
toward change, both nationally and locally. Employees
who are participating in #ShutDownSTEM may use their
paid time off. Requests for time off should be made

is still officially working under a reduced on-campus
staffing scenario.
