<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:9.5pt">The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium for Research and Education<br>
(LUMCON) seeks to hire at least three new Assistant Professors in the first<br>
phase of multi-year faculty expansion. We seek candidates in the following<br>
areas of coastal science: fisheries ecology, coastal hydrology/physical<br>
oceanography, plant ecology, biological oceanography, microbial ecology, and<br>
marine chemistry. Candidates should have notable research achievements,<br>
demonstration of funded research, or potential for funded research, and a<br>
commitment to education and outreach.<br>
<br>
The LUMCON DeFelice Marine Center (</span><a href="http://www.lumcon.edu/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:9.5pt">http://www.lumcon.edu</span></a><span style="font-size:9.5pt">) is located<br>
approximately 2 hours southwest of New Orleans at the upper end of Terrebonne<br>
Bay in the Mississippi River delta plain between the Atchafalaya and<br>
Mississippi rivers. LUMCON's unique locality encompasses numerous habitats in<br>
the Mississippi River Delta/Gulf of Mexico ecosystem, including extensive<br>
marshes, estuaries, rivers large and small, and the open Gulf of Mexico<br>
benthic and pelagic systems. The Center facilities include a seawater system,<br>
multiple wet labs, and a racetrack flume with laser Doppler profiler, state-<br>
of-the art environmental chambers, extensive aquaculture facilities and<br>
toxicology lab, a marsh mesocosm facility under development, and fleet of<br>
research vessels. Preference will be given to candidates who can clearly<br>
demonstrate a research program that maximizes the locality and research<br>
assets of the DeFelice Marine Center.<br>

In addition, LUMCON represents a consortium of university and colleges across<br>
the State of Louisiana. The successful candidate will build a collaborative<br>
program with faculty at the DeFelice Marine Center and across the consortium<br>
of universities and colleges.<br>
<br>
The position carries a 9-month salary. The initial appointment is for three<br>
years; following a review, the contract may be renewed for three more years.<br>
A six-year review similar to tenure is conducted for promotion to Associate<br>
Professor with a six-year appointment, but LUMCON is not a tenure-granting<br>
institution.<br>
